The importance of ivy

Many gardeners (including myself) dislike ivy with a vengance, however, ivy is a vital means of food for many birds and insects over the winter. With its late flowering season and winter berries, it fills a gap where there’d otherwise be very little food. A photo I snapped earlier illustrates this well and is gradually changing my opinion of this contentious plant.
